Anne
Bradshaw
10 members
joined 80 guests to help Anne Bradshaw celebrate her 80th Birthday
seen here cutting the cake. A
party hosted by Anne’s son at the Priest House Hotel, Castle Donnington,
East Midlands.
Many guests
commented on the camaraderie shared by the group after so many years, the
younger guests wee so interested in their war time exploits especially the Ack
Ack and ammunition drivers, also taken aback when they offered to help Lydia
Dolman to descend a flight of stairs “Oh don’t worry” said Lydia “I
will just slide down the banister” they were astounded because Lydia is also
80. But what is an age when we
are all so young at heart.
Ed:
Lydia that conjures up a picture.
I would love to see photographic evidence if there is any!

Sadly, this
is the last report I shall be making, since this branch closed at the end of
April. Time catches up with all
of us and since the Chairman was doing Secretary and (latterly) Treasurer, she
wished to retire. No substitutes
were forthcoming, so that brought us to the regrettable conclusion that
closure was inevitable.
In the 15
years of our existence we have formed a close friendship together and we are
determined to continue this with informal meetings. The regular attenders will continue to meet in some way or
the other and we will find some means of attending Area and Grand Reunions.
Inevitably,
in looking back, we think of the members we have lost. We wonder how those members who have never been able to
attend a meeting will continue membership.
I think that the pleasure of receiving “Lioness” will decide them
to continue – I hope so.
Attending the
Grand Reunion was a lovely way to finish.
What a fantastic weekend and how wonderfully it had been organised.
I suspect that it was probably a bit like the description of Harrods
– all, like a duck, smooth on the surface and paddling like hell underneath.
Adieu!
