Darlington and South Durham Branch

We at The Darlington and South Durham Branch are only a small branch of 6 members; who met regularly on the first Thursday of the month.  For the past 2 years we have met at a member’s flat in Darlington.  This was our associate member Mrs Marjorie Giroux, ex-WRAF, who was a very good, supportive member and always made us very welcome.  Sadly, Marge passed away in 30th May 2005, we then continued our meetings at Mrs Mary Wright’s flat in Darlington; unfortunately Mary passed away suddenly on the 31st July, 2005.  Recently we have met at The Cobbler’s Hall Hotel, at Newton Aycliffe, having changed our meeting time and day, to the first Monday of the month, at 11.30am. Hopefully, in the New Year, when my house will be newly decorated, we will meet on the first Monday of the month but in the afternoon.  At the moment we are a total of 4, but we are happy to continue as we are.  Our Christmas Dinner was on 5 December at the Cobbler’s Hall and Ann Johns, our only driver, is to pick up our oldest member, Mrs Maisie Waggot. We are delighted she can attend our dinner because she cannot usually attend our meetings. Nevertheless, she very kindly sends us a donation every year.
