The past year has had many ups and downs,
starting with the May meeting with a most interesting talk and demonstration
by Mrs Line of Plymouth on her life and times with the Bluebell Girls Dance
Group. Some may remember the film of Miss Bluebell who lived and worked in
France.
In June we had a talk by Maj (Retd) Maskens-McIntyre,
our Area Chairman, about her life in the WRAC which was very interesting and
enjoyable. July was a chat and a cuppa and no meeting was held in August. We
only managed to have six of us for the September event.
Our Birthday Luncheon was held as usual at
The Lord Nelson Inn, Topsham and was enjoyed by all. Christmas Buffet Lunch
was at The White Ensign Club and we invited the WRENS to join us,
unfortunately there is no WRAF Association in Exeter.
A very sad end to 2007 – two of our regular
members passed away – Mrs M P Lambert née Seear of Colyton on 8 December and
Mrs D M Waters née Shering on 23 December. We all miss them very much.
Only five members managed to get to our
February meeting as it was very cold and the same number made it to our AGM
in April. Three of us enjoyed the ATS 70th Anniversary Celebration in
London, a wonderful happy gathering as usual. Our Treasurer Pat Heron
entered hospital a few days before so could not join us and unfortunately
whilst in hospital fell and damaged her back. We all hope she will soon be
up and around once more.

We had the pleasure of the company of the
Vice President, Lt Col (Retd) Sue Westlake and our Area Chairman to lunch at
The Lord Nelson Inn, Topsham on 20 May so that Lt Col (Retd) Sue Westlake
could present a Certificate of Appreciation to our retired Secretary of 15
years, Mrs Margaret Crammer. This lovely occasion made a very happy ending
to our year.
We
had no meeting in November, as our Christmas Buffet Lunch held in early
December was at The White Ensign Club where we hold all our meetings and they
put on a wonderful lunch for us every year, when we invite the WRENS to join
us.
2007
started with a quiz to rattle our brains by Peter Easton in February.
In March Pat Lambert told us about her Life in Bangalore, India, which
was very interesting.
Our
AGM in April was followed by “ATS Remembrance” by Beryl Furey-King.
What memories it revived and all ex ATS should at least fill in the
form Mrs Furey-King gives out and also try and write a small account of their
Service life.

Yes please and let us have copies for the Lioness as well!
