Harrogate Branch

2008 started sadly for us as our oldest member Dorothy Wilcockson died in January, Joyce Scarborough in February and Mary Squires in March.  All three were keen loyal members both of the ATS and our Branch.

However, we had our 40th Birthday party to look forward to on 30 April at the St George Hotel, Harrogate (where we had an excellent Christmas lunch!)  We were honoured by the presence of the Vice President, Lt Col (Retd) Sue Westlake, previous Area Chairman, Col (Retd) Frankie Cook and our Area Chairman, Maj (Retd) Dot Ryder.  Eighteen members were able to attend and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves - even if the cake, kindly baked and iced by the Hotel Chef, was a rather bright green!  Our only remaining founder member Marjorie Harrison was able to attend – making a really jolly, friendly occasion.  Our newest ‘recruit’ Ann Pollard was also able to come in spite of a dreadful time after an accident.

We have moved our meeting place from the Methodist Chapel to St Peter’s Church ((we are very ecumenical) and still maintain a good attendance.

Our Chairman Barbara Dawson attended the AGM in London but sadly none of us managed the ATS 70th Anniversary Celebration but we will be at the Grand Reunion in 2009 for sure!
