September was our AGM and was attended by 17
of our ladies. Our longstanding Secretrary, Sheila Plantin, requested to
retire after fifteen years in the post….all that time keeping tabs on all
events and organising outings and speakers. She will be a hard act to
follow. Horror of horrors, having been just a goffer for a while – and being
the youngest member of our gang, I have been appointed as Secretary. I
promise to give it my best shot and I know that Barbara Dawson, our Chairman
will make sure I keep my socks pulled up and attend to the job in hand.

The North East Area Reunion at York was voted
a great success by the six of our members who managed to get there. Bus
companies from Harrogate don’t realise that transport is required at
reasonable times for ladies who shop and lunch! But we arrived in time to
say hello and to help with folding raffle tickets. We enjoyed meeting
members of other branches who were seated with.
This year, I had the honour of placing our
Branch Wreath at the Harrogate Cenotaph. Four of us attended the service at
the Garden of Remembrance at St Peter’s in November which is held a
fortnight before 11 November. However, St Peter’s Church has begun their
long awaited new build and overhaul so our monthly meetings are returning to
the Wesley Chapel. They are held on the last Wednesday of the month from
1.30 to 3.30 except in March (Luncheon), July (summer outings) and December
when we usually enjoy our Christmas Lunch at the St George Hotel. We know
them and they know us – also the bus passes the door so no problem there!

Wishing all branches a positive and glorious
summer in 2010.
