Our Branch is continuing as well as possible
and we have 19 Annual and 11 Life Members and we were delighted to welcome
Mrs Dorothy Parker, née Hermann, ex WRAC to the Association. We celebrated
our 60th Anniversary on 9 July 2006 although we had not been
aware of this until we delved into the old papers and read the original
Minute Book commenced by Lady Swinton.
We meet on the first Friday of the month at
The Royal British Legion HQ, 44 Beverley Road, Hull, which is near the City
Centre. Because of difficulties created from the relocation of bus termini
over the years, we brought the meeting forward to 1330 hours and opened the
doors from just after midday. This gives us time to have our get-together
over tea/coffee and ‘pack-ups’ before the business meeting enabling us to
disperse earlier to our homes. This seems to be working very well. The new
Paragon Interchange has now been opened with the new St Stephen’s Centre.
We advertise in the Hull Daily Mail
Community Events Diary and the East Riding News, also in the Central Library
which has an accessible Web Site too.
The Meetings are regularly attended by ten
to fourteen members with others joining us when work and family commitments
allow. November is our Planning Session. The Christmas Meeting and
Christmas Lunch were very much enjoyed. We do not meet in January (New Year
Week) so February Meeting covered the GHQ/Secretaries letter/information and
Greetings received. During March/April/May, Mrs Enid Long, our Treasurer,
ably led the meetings in the absence of myself (visiting family in Australia
with husband).
We all enjoyed the North Area Reunion very
much and this time instead of the scenic route, the bus broke down! However
we arrived just in time for the Corps Collect and were greeted by a
welcoming cheer. Unfortunately our oldest member, May Kirby (97), was not
able to come due to continuing ill health. She joined the Association in
1947.
We send Greetings to all our sister branches
and thank them for their support during the June floods, especially Bath
Branch, who astonished us by sending a donation of £50 each to two of our
Hull Members who lost the most because of the flooding. Thank you. Esprit
