After three years I am able to bring tidings
of great joy. Yes! We have finally found a suitable venue. We now meet on
the third Thursday of every month at the Labour Club, Silent Street, Ipswich
– meetings commence at 1400 hrs. The Club is at the corner of the main
Ipswich bus station which is ideal as many of our members travel into
Ipswich by bus. The Club is warm, clean, no stairs involved and drinks are
very cheap.
We normally have between twelve and sixteen
members at our meetings and we hope that now we have a permanent venue more
members will join us.
We had an enjoyable Christmas lunch at the
Novo Hotel in December. At the rest of our meetings we have been
entertaining ourselves, speakers cost the earth and most have already done
the rounds.
In February we had a picture quiz, in March
‘a sing, say or pay’ – this was a laugh – lots of War time songs with the
words changed. “A long way to Tipperary” became “A long way to the pawn
shop” and “Land of Hope and Glory” became “Land of Soap and Water”.
Evidently the ATS did a lot of route marching during the War and used to
sing when marching at ease. There appears to be a lot of talent among the
ex-ATS. The ex-WRAC showed more expertise at telling jokes (say no more).
In April we had a very interesting talk on the origins of the Royal British
Legion.
As you can see by the above, we are keeping
busy. If you at a loose end on the third Thursday of every month, we would
love to see you.
In the mean time – cheers and best wishes. |
