Following a hectic summer our meetings are
now almost back to normal. We welcomed two new members including one ex-QA
nurse who served in Egypt. We are looking forward to hearing about her
Service days. The other new member is a transfer from the south who now
lives in Yorkshire. We hope she will be happy with us.
Our September meeting ended with afternoon
tea and a cake to celebrate Elizabeth Bustard’s 80th birthday.
The Northern Area Lunch at Hull was noted one of the best. We hope this
will continue even though cost will have to be a serious factor.
In October we had our AGM and members asked
for the Branch to continue as before as everyone wanted to keep it going.
Lily Burke, our sole remaining founder member, brought birthday cake for us
to celebrate her 90th birthday.
Six members are going to the Grand Reunion;
can it possibly be as enjoyable as the ATS 70th Birthday Party?
Wonderful pictures in Lioness 2/2008.
One of our members was in the Land Army
before joining the WRAC so was thrilled to receive her Badge and to be able
to join other ladies at The Cenotaph for a Memorial Service. Members were
involved in the record breaking Poppy Day collections and in Remembrance
Sunday parades and services. Two members and friends were at the Festival
of Remembrance in the Albert Hall and at the Cenotaph for the Parade.
Four members joined Leeds Branch RA
Association for their Christmas Lunch. Our busy year ended with our usual
most enjoyable Christmas Lunch at Thomas Danby College which was also Mary
Clement’s 80th Birthday Party.
Our next meeting will be in February when
we have a Bring and Buy sale for Branch funds. March will be the Grand
Reunion – how time flies.
