LIVERPOOL BRANCH
Three
of our members attended the Reunion at Warwick University, which was
most enjoyable, not to mention an adventure, when we had to leave that
big dining room, when listening to the band of the Logistic Corps,
playing the songs of yesteryear, and laughing about the strange noise
flooding the room, thinking it was meant to be a wartime air-raid siren
– and then discovered it was a fire alarm!
Congratulations
to al who did the organising and to all who attended. It was wonderful to see how the ex ATS girls, and their
younger sister had kept the spirit of friendship and adventure over the
years.
The
Liverpool gang are still meeting monthly, and are glad to welcome back
members who have been absent through illness.
We recently had a visit from one of the visitors from the
Department of Works and Pensions, and was very informative about which
benefits were there for claiming p stressing that there are so many
available but not claimed.
In the
meanwhile, we are pleased to meet up monthly, and keep up our friendship
and support for each other.

Members of the Branch continue to meet at the
Adelphi Hotel on the 3rd
Wednesday of the month. Some of us meet for lunch and are then joined by
other members for the meeting afterwards. As Secretary, I attended the
Secretaries meeting at the Grand Reunion at Blackpool: unfortunately, I only
managed the Saturday but a couple of our members, Irene Drew and Janet
Vickers, managed the whole weekend and had a wonderful time. In May we went
to the North West Cinema Organ Heritage Museum at Eccles. It was a very
enjoyable outing and we were treated to a concert on a Wurlitzer Organ and
the Organist finished his recital with a war time melody of songs in our
honour.
In August the Not Forgotten Association
treated us to their annual cruise on the Mersey which was enjoyed by all who
were able to go. In November we entertained the Revd Bill Sandes who is
Chaplain to Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service who told us about his work. As
he is an operational fire fighter and an Anglican Vicar, it was all very
interesting.
In September our Branch was host to the North
West Area Reunion again at the Adelphi Hotel. Members came from over a wide
area and everyone seemed to have a good time – we have to thank our Area
Secretary, Pat Sanders, for doing most of the organising. We hope to hold
next year’s in Chester. Last week we enjoyed our Christmas Lunch at the
Atlantic Tower Hotel overlooking the Pier Head and the River Mersey.
When we return in February after the
Christmas and New Year break, we will be entertaining the Lord Lieutenant of
Merseyside, Dame Lorna Muirhead, so that’s something to look forward to.
We would still like new members to join us
and enjoy some “esprit de corps”, so if you are reading this and don’t
normally come to meetings, we would love to see you.
