At
our June meeting we requested members to relate ‘An Army Tale’.
We did have tales – but not all Army – shows we don’t live in the
past, but do like a good natter – which continued into July’s meeting when
members recalled Veterans Day Events. Three of our members were invited to 10
Downing Street for tea. Others
joined Brian Turner – Ready Steady Cook Chef at the Imperial War Museum.
We received a letter from Buckingham Palace thanking us for the
Birthday card we sent to Her Majesty the Queen.
So there really was something to natter about at that meeting.
We
closed the year, 29 September, brilliantly with a lunch at the Victory Club.
The food was great, the staff helpful – they happily coped with
wheelchairs and crotchety legs with a smile.
Thanks
must go to the committee who set up an impromptu reception corner for signing
in and everyone receive a knitted medal bearing their name – thanks to Jean
Taylor our arts and crafts expert we didn’t forget each others names.
Each member also received a WRAC Association Badge magnet and ATS
bookmark souvenir. Thirty-seven
members attended, travelling from far and wide by train, tube, bus and taxi.
We
held our 87h AGM in October and like many other Branches find it
difficult to find new committee members and officers.
Age seems to be catching up with us.
For the same reason only two members marched at the Cenotaph and five
tickets requested for Westminster Abbey.
Our hearts are willing; it is our backs and legs that are the trouble.
Even so we have an average of twenty-eight members attending meetings,
so it’s not all bad.
May
we wish you all a happy and healthy 2007 – see you in April at the AGM.
MORE
MEMBERS NEEDED
This
is a plea from London Branch to ex-WRAC members. In 13 years, this Branch
will celebrate its centenary and what a celebration that will be! Sadly, not
many of us will be there – but you could be. We are very proud of this
Branch and need your support to carry on. We meet at the Green Jackets Club
in Davies Street which is just across the road from Bond Street tube
station. If you can help, please phone Gladys Stewart on 0208 460 5982. Come
along to a meeting and see if you like us….we do not live in the past and
enjoy a good laugh and a natter….we would like to meet you. We already
have ex-WRAC members as well as ex-ATS but we do need new blood.
Editor:
With my General Secretary’s hat on, I am sure that all Branches could
equally well make this plea. Come on ex WRAC members – the future is in your
hands.
