We have enjoyed our usual
varied activities since last we were last in touch, in June we triumphed
over the Association
of*Wrens, yet again, winning the annual quiz by 3 points. The old song said
"The Navy gets the gravy, but the Army gets the beans" so we reckon beans
must be brain-food.
July brought
us a visit from "Hearing Dogs
for the Deaf" which is a very interesting and worthwhile charity. All the
dogs trained are either rescue dogs or those whose owners are unable to keep
them for one reason or
another. The speaker brought three dogs with her,
all perfectly behaved, and
very lovable. I don't think we had eaten enough beans
in August because we lost to
the Far East Vets, by just one point, in our quiz with them - there were
some jolly hard questions!
Alan Painter, a local
magistrate, came to talk about his experiences in September - we have
invited him back to enact
a 'Mock Trial' next year. Our
November meeting saw Paul Bullimore and his collection (a small part of it)
of Old Toys, which
again was very interesting. Anne brought her six year old grand-daughter
along who was intrigued with some of the items. We are looking forward to
our Christmas party in December and to our Anniversary lunch in
January, when we hope Lt Col
Westlake will be joining us.
Dot Bell née Cook, one of our
ATS members, was one of the 35 ex-service personnel invited to Bletchley
Park for their commemorative function on October 9th
during which she was presented with her brooch by David Milliband. Dot was
an interceptor and the only Army lady there although there were some WRNS &
WAAF.

Sadly, since we last reported
in the Lioness,
we have lost two of
our members - Georgina (Poppy) Gregory, and Jean Vickers. We miss them both
greatly.
