Greetings to all our friends scattered in
many branches, also at Headquarters.
I am sure those who have known Joan Morgan
(our Secretary for many years) will be pleased to hear she is making a slow
recovery after suffering a stroke last year. Our meetings this year have all
been well attended. In January our Bring & Buy/Auction raised funds for the
Branch.
Our February meeting was a well informed
talk on “Legal matters for the Mature” by Ann Orr. Very helpful and reminds
us all to get our affairs in order.
In March, Kathryn Lawley, the Business
Editor of our local paper the Salisbury Journal, gave a splendid talk, not
only telling us about the history of the paper and how it has evolved, but
also abou the problems they have today with so much emphasis on
advertising. Kathryn was surprised to meet our newest member Eileen
Pennell. It was Eileen’s daughter who taught her so much when she first
joined the staff of the Journal!
Three members attended the AGM at the
Victory Services Club in London in April. At our own meeting it was a
welcome return to a good friend of the Association, Kathy Quinn, who gave a
very interesting illustrated talk “The A to Z of Wiltshire Churches”.
In May we again visited the Royal Signals
Museum at Blandford, mainly to see their new “Women at War” exhibition.
This was well presented. The Curator would be pleased to hear from anyone
who served during the War and has a tale to tell. His next project is to be
a history of the WRAC and would welcome any relevant memorabilia.
Also in May, thirteen members enjoyed the
South and South West Area Reunion at Bath City Football Ground. What a very
happy occasion it was. Lovely meal, the staff so very helpful and a superb
cake too. Many congratulations to Bath Branch and a big “Thank You”.
