It is some years since a report was made from our Branch, so
I think it is time we let our fellow readers know that we still exist.
Our membership is low and we average ten at our
monthly meetings but we have a lively meeting and there is always plenty to
discuss – such as, what a good time we had at the Grand Reunion. Just four of us
went and we had such a good time and especially enjoyed the parade along the sea
front in icy winds. They say Blackpool is bracing, well it certainly was that
day. What a super sight, 500 or so of us marching behind our furled standards –
furled in order to control them.

Since then we have had our spring luncheon at a
local hotel, an excellent meal and we enjoyed it so much that we have already
booked our Christmas dinner there.
We are looking forward to several coming events.
In July we are visiting the National Memorial Arboretum on RA Day and on the 19th
will be attending the last Normandy Veterans’ Day in York. We have supported
this event for many years with parades in York and at one of the local barracks,
preceded by a service at York Minister. On 13 September we will once again be at
the memorial service at Eden Camp, another annual event we look forward to.
We have been invited to Somme Barracks in
Sheffield by UOTC. They invited us last year for refreshments after their
Christmas Carol Service in Sheffield Cathedral. It was lovely to meet so many
eager young cadets on that occasion and we are looking forward to attending
their Beating Retreat on 2 June. Our Northern Area Reunion is to be held in York
this year so that is another occasion when we met up with old friends.
I would like to express our thanks for our
excellent Lioness, we all look forward to receiving our copies.
Our meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month at
the Victoria Hall, Chapel Walk, Sheffield and starts at 1.30 p.m. If any old
comrades ATS or WRAC would care to join us, you will be made very welcome.
