We send greetings for 2009 to everyone at
home and abroad. We still meet at the Armoury in Stockport on the 2nd
Thursday of each month. Numbers vary as we get older but it is well worth
the effort of getting there to catch up with each other.
April: 14 of our ladies went to the
National Memorial Arboretum on 23 April – such a change since they were
there last time. They were so thrilled with the new Armed Forces Memorial –
it is so beautiful.
May: 1 May there was a wonderful party
held by the Wilmslow Branch to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of
the Formation of the ATS. It was a wonderful occasion and very well
attended. People were invited from all over the North West and eight from
the Stockport Branch went and really enjoyed it.
June: Eleven of us had a super day in
Llandudno; the weather was kind and the sun shone all day. Before leaving
for home we had a great afternoon tea.
September: Three ladies went to Blackpool
to attend the ATS Dinner Club which was very enjoyable. We arrived Monday
and returned home on Friday morning. It was lovely to meet old friends and
make new ones. We also fitted in a trip to the lights, a Gala Dinner and a
trip to Keswick in the Lake District – a really fabulous few days.
October/November: October was busy for
us. We had a special guest at our meeting. Sandie, the daughter of our
member Brenda Logan, was visiting from Texas – such a charming lady. So we
held a party and everyone enjoyed themselves.

Stockport Ladies
Only three of our members went to London to
the Westminster Abbey Remembrance Service this year. The weather was woeful
on the Saturday but thankfully was dry on Sunday for those who marched. On
22 November, we lunched at the Catering College – fourteen members and
guests attended and the food as usual was lovely.
We are sad to report that two members have
died recently; Jenny Barratt in October and Lilian Storah in November.
Members attended both funerals and were invited for refreshments afterwards
by the respective families who were lovely warm people and made us feel very
welcome. Jennie and Lilian will be sadly missed by so many people – they
will join the ranks of our dear departed members: always remembered and
never forgotten.
December: We are looking forward to our
Christmas meal at the Pinewood Hotel in Handforth on 11 December. We have
not been there before but ladies from the Wilmslow Branch always go there
and have a wonderful time. We are sure we will too!
Finally, we would like to add our grateful
thanks to all the people at Worthy Down who do so much for us. |
