The
Branch has now seen the end of its first year.
It has been interesting from every point of view.
We did some of the things we planned to do and the year has flown by.
Finding
accommodation for our meetings at the right price and in the right location
was quite a problem in the beginning, as no doubt other branches will
appreciate. Thanks to one of our
eagle-eyed members, we now meet monthly in the Plough Inn, Dogs Head Street,
Ipswich at 2.30 pm on the third Thursday of each month. The Landlord looks
kindly upon us and we have the dining room to ourselves for several hours in
the afternoon. This means we can
now begin to have speakers and other entertainment or just a good chat –
which most members enjoy on a regular basis.
Our thanks to Sylvia Johnson for her quizzes which are guaranteed to
make us laugh and scratch our heads at the same time.
Four
members attended the Grand Reunion at Coventry.
All agreed it was a fantastic weekend and please, let’s do it again
soon.
Thanks
to Jan Brodie Murphy for chairing our first year.
She has been a great support to all of us so enjoy your travels Jan and
come back to us soon. Welcome to
Molly Clegg who has agreed to take on the job for the coming year – or
three! Also to Margaret Garrard, our new Treasurer, who volunteered
her services.
Plans
for the next year involve a lunch, a speaker and hopefully at least one outing
and a visit to our Norfolk friends. The
imminent Christmas Lunch will be our first big venture.
An evening meeting is also planned for the New Year for those working
members who cannot join us during the day.
They are not forgotten.
On
Remembrance Sunday, the Secretary, Liz Ives, and Treasurer, Margaret Garrard,
laid wreaths on behalf of the WRAC and ATS.
It was quite moving being the first time for both of them and the
Branch.
We
will be pleased to see any members or prospective members of the Association
who would like to visit us. Word
is out now that we do actually exist. We
are no longer Scotch mist.
