Greetings
to all other Branches from Sunderland. Unfortunately
this will probably be our last Report as due to falling numbers and lack of
volunteers for the Committee it has been agreed that the Branch will close
early in the New Year.
Thanks to funding from “Home Front Recall” several of our members were
able to attend the NE Reunion held at Millstones and hosted by Harrogate.
We all enjoyed ourselves thoroughly – good food, good entertainment
and good company – what more could anyone ask for?
Jean Wise also met someone she had known while serving in NAAFI in
Rheindahlen – her surname then was Armour.
Coventry branch will be sad to learn of the death of
one of their former members – Mrs Esther McGill. Esther had been suffering from cancer and, although she had put up a
very brave fight, she died very peacefully in a local Hospice where she had
been very well looked after. Six
of us attended her funeral and formed a Guard of Honour.
On
a happier note, the same members attended Gladys and Fred Parkes’ Diamond
Wedding “surprise” party, organised by their son Peter.
I will never go to Heaven as I had to keep a straight face when Gladys
was talking about the dinner her Grandchildren were organising for her.
Her face was an absolute picture when we all jumped out saying
“Surprise”.
Everything
is in hand for our Christmas Party which, this year, will all be free.
The catering and entertainment have been booked so all that remains is
for everyone to have a good time. This
will also be our farewell party. Good
Luck, God Bless and all the best for the future to all other Branches.
