The Winchester Branch formed in 2001. It was
formed by 2 serving and 1 retired member of the WRAC, who were all working at
Worthy Down, Winchester, home of the AGC.
We have a fluctuating membership, based on the still serving personnel
posted to Worthy Down, and the retired stalwarts who try and attend meetings
when they are able. One of our main objectives is to raise money not only for
the Association but also for the Army Benevolent Fund, we also try and have
fun as well.
Meeting are held on the 2nd Thursday of Jan, Mar, May, July, Sept, Nov. A
newsletter is produced every other month

Where has the year gone, the Grand Reunion is
a distant memory and Christmas 2009 is also long gone. Apart from Blackpool
the branch has had a very quiet second half of the year. In Sept we held our
AGM at the Golden Lion Pub – now established as a favourite venue and the
staff did us proud by providing us with an excellent buffet. We were a few
short on the night but that meant all the more food for those that did
attend. The AGM part was very chaotic (even more so than usual). We did vote
on all the important bits but as usual we were too busy chatting to pay much
notice. The night was made even better by the unexpected arrival of one of
our still serving members, Rowena, on a flying visit from Nepal, so we had a
lot of catching up to do.
November saw us undertake a new venture: that
of a quiz night. With the generous support of the Worthies Social Club who
kindly waived their hire fees for the night, nine intrepid branch members
set out to do battle with teams from Worthy Down and the Social Club. On
what turned out to be a night of pouring rain and high winds, everyone who
actually made it is to be congratulated. An excellent fish and chip supper
was supplied by the Kings Worthy Chippie - thanks to them for the discount
and for turning up with hot food given the conditions! The grand sum of £260
was raised from the Quiz entry fees and a raffle, £200 was given to the ABF
and £65 to the Benevolent Fund as well as £40 from the sale of Association
Trolley Coins.

Denise, Hermé and Lynn on the London Eye
Non Branch events that were open to all and
enjoyed by some included a trip to the Trooping of the Colour for Janet
thanks to the Not Forgotten Association. (Report on that can be found
elsewhere). Denise, Lynn and Hermé had a trip on the London Eye and then
sightseeing. The trip from Westminster Pier to Waterloo Pier by Tuk Tuk was
very interesting, downhill - no brakes – swerving to avoid manhole covers.
Maggie went to the Windsor Royal Military Tattoo and Hermé and Maggie paid a
visit to Bletchley Park.
