Since the last Lioness we are sad to
report that two of our members have passed away – Eileen Salter and Marjorie
Lloyd-Jones. Both had been members for many years and we shall miss them.
For various reasons attendance at our
meetings this year has fallen, but the few who have been able to attend have
enjoyed the meetings and being together. To the members who have been
prevented from coming due to ill health themselves or of members of their
families, we send our best wishes and hope they will soon be able to join us
again.
We decided not to have a coach outing in
May, but instead to travel by bus (courtesy of our free bus passes) to
Bridgnorth, a very interesting small market town in Shropshire and only 14
miles from Wolverhampton. Bridgnorth is also well known for the Severn
Valley Railway. However, for various reasons including rain, only three of
us went. We enjoyed ourselves, especially the lunch, but returned home on
an earlier bus than planned as the weather was too miserable to explore
Bridgnorth.
We now look forward to the Wales & West
Reunion in Shrewsbury on 13 September – always an enjoyable event – and our
own Christmas Lunch on 9 December.
We have been asked by a non-member of the
Association if anyone remembers her as she is anxious to obtain a copy of
group photographs she was on, as she has no photographs of herself in
uniform. She is Mrs Elsie E Gould née Williams, W/353721, of 2 Finger Post
Drive, Pelsall, Walsall, West Midlands WS3 4AP. She joined at Guildford,
but is not quite sure of the date. However it would be in 1948 as she went
from Guildford to 46 Mixed HAA at Carter Barracks, Bulford and served for
two years as an Orderly and Sgts’ Mess Waitress. She was demobbed on 20
November 1950. If anyone thinks they can help, would you please get in
touch with her so that an arrangement can be made for her to get a copy of
any photographs available.
We send our best wishes to all members of
our Branch and to friends in other Branches. We trust you will all keep
well when winter finally arrives. |
