Apart from one very sad event, it
has been another good six months for Worthing
Branch.
On 27/28 June we made £450
at our stall at the West Sussex Armed Forces
weekend which was held here in
Worthing right next to our meeting place. We decorated our
stall with help from HQ by way of
stickers and we wore special T-shirts.

During the weekend, we were asked
by a visitor if we would like to have an original framed recruiting poster which
belonged to his mother, Freda Ann Joan Bean who had been a staff car driver in
the ATS. Although he would have been quite happy for us to auction it, our
members felt that it would be better off in the Museum. On 14 July several of us
had a trip to the AGC Museum in Winchester and handed the framed poster over and
they were delighted to receive it as they did not have one in such good
condition.

Our monthly meetings continue.
The Lay Preacher at the church whose hall we use
remarks how nice it is to always
hear us laughing. That pretty much sums us up. We
are the friendliest group you
could meet: all new
members are greeted and treated as friends.
We finished the year with a
Christmas lunch at the Chatsworth Hotel. The hotel is
next to the gardens where Armed
Forces weekend is held and they could not have been more helpful that weekend
so they deserved our custom. They gave us
a wonderful meal and happily put
up with our rowdiness.
Our funds are now in a good
condition, thanks to our Treasurer, Greta, and some of our ladies who like to
make things - thanks Janet Jam!
Our year unfortunately finished
on a very sad note. One of our first members, Rose Southern, who had been
closely involved with everything we did, developed cancer and it took her from
us far too quickly. Her last four weeks were spent in the Queen Alexandra
Hospital Home, and we are grateful to them for the wonderful way they
looked after her. We said goodbye
to her in their lovely little chapel.
